The programme of sweep net sampling of sea trout to find out about levels of sea lice infection on wild fish, funded by the Scottish Government, will continue until the end of the summer. In addition to the sweep net sampling, sea trout taken by rod and line in the River Ewe are being examined. So far results have been mixed with generally lower lice levels on fish taken in the Loch Ewe and Loch Gairloch area compared to several other areas in the west of Scotland. Figures are reported to the Tripartite Working Group and on to local fish farm companies. Wester Ross Fisheries Trust has not been given permission by the Scottish Government to publish any figures for the numbers of sea lice recorded on wild fish.
