SWRFT Newsletter February 2019 published

Posted: Tuesday 12 February, 2019 @ 10:45:01

The Skye and Wester Ross Fisheries Trust newsletter February 2019 can be found on the downloads page of this website or by clicking here.

The newsletter includes an initial report of rod catches of salmon and sea trout for the 2018 season; a summary of field work, including sea trout monitoring and juvenile fish surveys on the Isle of Skye and on the mainland; the discovery of wild salmon in the Bruachaig river above the falls and a new hydropower scheme; an update on fish farming developments within the area; and news of education activities and invasive non-native species.

Thank you to everyone who helped with our work in 2018 on the mainland and on the Isle of Skye.

Field work planned in 2019 includes netting for sea trout in the sea, surveys of juvenile salmon, brown trout sampling in hill lochs, invasive species monitoring and control, a woodland fragments recovery project (in collaboration with Wester Ross Biosphere and The Woodland Trust), and further investigation of herring spawning areas and other marine habitats and wildlife.
