WRFT Annual Meeting 2025: WRFT Biologist's Review
Posted: Thursday 1 May, 2025 @ 10:54:59

On 24th April 2025, the WRFT annual meeting was held at Poolewe Village Hall.
Presentations were as follows: Peter Cunningham (WRFT Biologist), Biologist’s review 2024-2025 summarising some the activities of the Trust over the previous 12 months; Nicky Lewis Butler (Seabed and Seashore Loch Ewe), about surveys of seagrass and plans to carry out video surveys of the seabed in Loch Ewe; and Dr Carol Sparling (Director of the Sea Mammal Research Unit, St Andrews University), presentation about how seal numbers are surveyed, long-term changes in seal populations around Scotland, and future work.
Thank you very much to Nicky and Carol for their excellent presentations and for answering many questions; and to everyone else who came along to participate.
The meeting was not so well attended as in previous years; it is a challenge to find a day, place and time that provides an opportunity for as many people as possible to meet up.
For those who were unable to attend but remain interested in our recent work and plans for the year ahead, please find Peter’s presentation, slightly revised and tidied up here.
Comments always welcome.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our work over the past 12 months.
There is much that can be done to help wild salmon and sea trout and other wild fish populations in and around Wester Ross, and to protect and revive some of the habitats that support them in freshwater and in the coastal seas; always much more than we can achieve on our own. Please get in touch if you are interested in supporting some of our work over the months ahead.
